Task 8.2: Intelligent engine

Objectives:

  • Evaluation and verification of sensors for use with HFO-operated four-stroke Diesel engines for NOx, O2 and online cylinder pressure measurement. Applicable sensors to be selected to deliver reliable measurements of engine data, showing long-term stability.
  • Development and evaluation of control strategies including suitable algorithms for the Design of Experiments, the engine modelling and the optimization. Novel optimization algorithms based on evolutionary and social inspired techniques will be developed and applied to the determination of optimal control strategies.
  • Confirmation of the functionality of the adaptive control system in testbed-based trials. Measurements are scheduled to outline the benefits of the new control system.
